Types of Women Panties

People have many questions about women’s underwear. Questions that immediately come to mind include “How did it come about?” and “What are the different kinds of panties?” But women’s panty is a topic seldom talked about, if at all. This is because no one wants to risk being thought of as ignorant (for women) or a pervert (for men). In this article, we break all these taboo to give you the lowdown on the types of women’s panties available.

History of the Panty

Before it became a stable in everyday life, panties used to have a specific function: body contortion. This simply means that it is used to make a woman’s body more attractive by tucking in the waist and enabling her to straighten her back. One shop that has a significant impact on the panty industry is the Frederick’s of Hollywood shop. It sold lingerie and corsets to women. The new styles offered at the shop were further glamorized by models like Bettie Page.
At around the same time, various fabrics such as satin, lace, cotton, and silk were becoming popular. These were desired by women because it looks sexier and feels more comfortable. This development may have contributed to the development of panties as a hygiene product.

Various Types of Panties

While panties might be a necessity today, there’s no doubt that certain styles are sexier than others. Thus, there are many categories of panties based on its width at the side, height, and amount of rear coverage. Among the most popular ones used today include:
Briefs – provides full coverage to the rear. A classic brief will have sides extended below the hip. Meanwhile, a French-cut brief is otherwise known as a high-cut garment because it is narrower. Other subcategory of briefs include boyleg (inspired by men’s underwear) and control panties (provides slimmer appearance). Briefs also rise below the navel.
Bikinis – worn at the hips with narrower fabric at the side. A string bikini falls under this broad category although it is more seductive because the waistband is just composed of a string.
Tangas – it is very similar to a string bikini. The waistband is made of string but it has full rear coverage.
Thongs – this is probably one of the most seductive types of women underwear because it looks like tangas with minimal rear coverage.
G-String – very few women can pull-off a G-string. This is because it is composed of a strip of fabric for the rear which extends to the crotch.
